Our final project of the
quarter will be a portfolio that you will create based on your best historical
thinking.
You will answer the following
questions, typing them out and following the general length guidelines. You
need not include the questions, but you should number your sections.
PORTFOLIO QUESTIONS:
1. Which reading this quarter
impacted you most profoundly and why? (1 paragraph*)
2. What impact would the study
of history have on your major? If you are undeclared, use your major area of
interest. If you are a history major, how has this course changed your thinking
about history? Be creative. (1 paragraph)
3. Make some artistic
representation of some historical theme covered in this class. (?)
4. Who is the most interesting
individual we have discussed this quarter? (1 paragraph)
5. Imagine a conversation
between yourself in 2013 and the character you mention in question 4. Write out
the conversation. You can talk about anything, but you must answer the following
two questions within your discussion: what is it about 2013 that would be most
difficult for that person to understand? What is it about his or her time that
is most difficult for you to understand? (1 paragraph-ish)
6. Some of the readings for the
course are Benjamin Franklin, “Common
Sense,” and Frederick Douglass. Tell
me one idea that seems to tie together these readings. (1 paragraph)
